God of My Tears

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? – Psalm 56:8

In Southeast Texas, the last few weeks have seen a good deal of tossing and a good deal of tears. Even today there are many who still cannot get to their homes, many who are in their homes but without electricity, and the rebuilding ahead remains a daunting task.  In the midst of all that is going on this week, I came across this verse in my quiet time, and was reminded that God keeps track of our tears.

I was reminded that the God who knows us inside and out, who knows the number of each hair on our heads also knows each tear we shed.  He is the source of our joy He is very present in time of need, and knows our pain and our tears.  With that in mind I wrote this song.   Some songs take time to write, but this one seems to have been wanting out for a while and came quickly.  I wrote it around 12:30 am and recorded it here at 8:00 am.

What a wonderful reminder we receive in this Psalm, that God who is our strength and our shield remembers each tear we shed and brings us comfort and peace, no matter the situation around us.

Lyrics:
V1: God I’m in that place again where I feel lost // Caught up in a battle I can’t win
The floods they rise around me and my faith is growing dim // but I know the sun will rise again.
I try walk this path I know you set me on // but I’m the kind of guy who finds the long way home
I fake a smile then I cry awhile // when no one else can see
Still I know You’re there // right in front of me

CH: I hear you whisper gently in my ear // You hold my hand in valleys of my fears
You’re there in all my laughter, so faithful through the years // God of my joy, and God of my tears

V2: You lift me up and set me on a solid rock // time and time again you’ve seen me through
I know you’re there I know you care, you prove so well you do//Still I trust in me when I should trust in you

CH:

BRIDGE: Oh when life just and fair and life just ain’t right // Still I yes I know, you’re on my side

CH: I hear you whisper gently in my ear // You hold my hand in valleys of my fears
You’re there in all my laughter, so faithful through the years // God of my joy, God of my peace, God of my hope – and God of my tears
